Who regulates MOT tests?

MOT tests in the UK are regulated by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) – a government body responsible for ensuring that vehicles meet the legal safety and environmental standards.

The DVSA sets the rules for how MOT tests are carried out, approves authorised test centres, and monitors them to ensure they’re following correct procedures.

They also provide training and certification for MOT testers and carry out inspections to maintain testing quality across garages.

If a test centre doesn’t meet DVSA standards, it can face penalties – including suspension or removal of its MOT licence.

So when you take your car or motorcycle in for an MOT, you can be confident it’s being tested under consistent, government-backed guidelines.
