Porsche has hinted at how its all-new Macan EV will look with a first sketch of the SUV that is due to arrive early in 2024.
The Macan EV will be the first Porsche to use an innovative all-electric platform that will make it the sportiest car in its class and provide rapid charging.
The sketch shows the new Macan EV will sport a low coupé-like roofline, as well as Porsche’s trademark full-width rear light bar.

At the front, the headlights are similar to the current Macan while the fog lights are pushed further to the sides of the bumper, which will help with a smoother front for improved aerodynamics.
Underneath the new body, the Macan EV will sit on Porsche’s new Premium Platform Electric, or PPE, which has been developed with Audi, so expect to see it being used on the next generation of Q5.
Jörg Kerner, Vice President Product Line Macan, said: “We want the all-electric Macan to be the sportiest car in its segment and it will feel unmistakably like a Porsche.”
To achieve this, the PPE comes with electric motors for both the front and rear axles. This will give the Macan EV 610hp and a colossal 1000Nm of torque, which is more than the current 911 Turbo S. Porsche is yet to reveal performance figures for the new Macan EV, but it’s likely it will offer 0-60mph in less than four seconds and a top speed of up to 155mph.
The four-wheel drive set-up of the Macan EV is focused on performance driving on the road. Slightly more power is sent to the rear wheels, with a front-rear power split of 48-52%, so the car behaves more like a sports car than an SUV.
Porsche says the fine control offered by the two electric motors combined with the Performance Rear Axle will give the Macan EV the best cornering agility of any SUV in its segment. It also comes with rear wheel steering, which is a first for the Macan, that allows the rear wheels to turn a small amount. In tight corners, it makes the Macan more agile, while at high speeds it helps with stability.
Thanks to the PPE platform, the Macan EV will have a 100kWh battery that can recharge from 5% to 80% in less than 25 minutes when hooked up to a suitable rapid charger. This is good as, by the sounds of it the drive, you’ll not want to leave it parked for long. Porsche believes this will overcome any concerns from customers about the Macan switching to electric-only for its power when the new SUV goes on sale at the beginning of 2024. What do you think?
