How often should I service a hybrid car?

Most hybrid vehicles follow a familiar schedule — typically once a year, or every 10,000 to 12,000 miles. That’s roughly the same interval as standard petrol or diesel vehicles.

That said, your driving habits can influence this. For example, plug-in hybrids that are mostly driven on electric power may require fewer engine-related services between intervals.

The key is consistency. Routine servicing helps catch potential issues early, keeps your warranty valid, and ensures your hybrid operates efficiently.

Keep in mind that not all servicing tasks are the same. Over time, your hybrid may require more specific checks — such as detailed inspections of the hybrid battery and electrical systems. These are often recommended every few years or after a set mileage, depending on the manufacturer.

If you’re unsure when your next service is due, consult your vehicle’s handbook or speak to a garage experienced in hybrid vehicles. They’ll help you stay on track with the correct maintenance schedule.
