Help > Car Servicing > Do Hybrids Need Oil Changes As Often?
Hybrid cars still use an internal combustion engine, which means they still need engine oil to stay clean and effective.
Like any car, that oil breaks down over time and must be replaced.
In general, most hybrids follow the same service interval of 10,000 to 12,000 miles or once a year.
But some plug-in hybrids, depending on how much electric driving they do, may stretch further between changes. That is because the engine might be running less often.
However, skipping oil changes is not recommended. Even if the engine is not running every day.
Oil can age with time, not just mileage, and keeping it fresh helps prevent long-term wear.
Follow the manufacturer’s recommended interval or speak to a hybrid-trained mechanic.
