Are Hybrids More Expensive To Service?

This is not always the case. It all depends on what work is required.

For routine servicing - such as oil and filter changes, tyre checks, and brake inspections - the cost of maintaining a hybrid vehicle is usually similar to that of a petrol or diesel car.

However, servicing hybrid-specific parts can be more expensive. These include:

  • High-voltage battery diagnostics
  • Inverter cooling system maintenance
  • Electrical fault tracing or software updates

These components may require specialist tools and technicians with hybrid training, which can increase labour time or hourly costs.

That said, most hybrids are built for reliability and low-maintenance performance. If you keep up with regular servicing, the overall running costs are often very manageable - especially when balanced against fuel savings.
