Do hybrid cars need different servicing?

In many ways, yes - hybrid cars do require slightly different servicing than conventional vehicles. But the difference is not drastic.

Hybrids still have petrol or diesel engines, which means they need the same standard checks as traditional cars: oil changes, filter replacements, brake checks, suspension assessments, and tyre inspections.

What makes hybrid servicing unique is the electrical component of the vehicle. Hybrid vehicles include:

  • High-voltage batteries
  • Electric motors
  • Complex control systems

These systems rely heavily on both hardware and software. As a result, technicians often need specialised tools and training to service the electrical side safely and effectively.

Additionally, many hybrids have separate cooling systems for the battery and inverter. These may not be addressed during a standard service, so it’s important that hybrid-trained technicians perform the work.

In short, hybrid cars don’t need more frequent servicing - they just need servicing that takes into account both traditional and electric systems.
