Hyundai unveils Ioniq 5 N super hot hatch

Join Jonny Smith as he takes a whistle-stop tour of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. It’s the first all-wheel drive high performance N model from Hyundai and it can hit 160mph.

Designed with help from Hyundai’s World Rally Championship knowledge, the Ioniq 5 N has up to 650hp available thanks to the intriguingly named N Grin Boost button on the steering wheel.

While Jonny doesn’t get the chance to try this on the road, he shows us the N’s more aggressive, sporty styling. It sits lower to the ground and is longer than the standard Ioniq 5 thanks to new bumpers, which include active air flaps at the front to direct cooling air to the brakes and battery.

Speaking of the battery, the N comes with a bigger battery than the standard Ioniq 5 – 84kWh compared to 72kWh. This means it can sprint from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds yet still cover up to 220 miles on a full charge.

Dedicated Pirelli tyres help the Ioniq 5 N achieve this by balancing performance grip with excellent EV efficiency.

Inside the Hyundai, Jonny finds plenty of quality recycled materials such as the Alcantara upholstery and plastic bottles for the door armrests that lend the new N models a sporty, high-grade feel. Other features of the N are its Drift Mode and N E-shift simulated eight-speed gearbox, and the Active Sound Mode delivered through eight speakers.

It all reminds Jonny of one of his all-time favourite cars – the Lancia Delta Integrale. Can the Hyundai live up to that? Watch the video to find out.
