Best Tyres For Polestar

Polestars are hard on tyres. For example, the Polestar 4 coupé weighs up to 2,355kg before anyone even slides into the driver’s seat.
Plus, when you take into account the dual motor version – which makes 506 lbf-ft of torque from a standstill - the right tyre choice really matters on these cars
For most UK owners a good replacement set to look at are the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres. Especially if you want to keep the summer performance the car was designed around.
Alternatively, you can look at the Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport - if you would rather an all season set.
What does POL mean on a tyre?
POL is Polestar's original equipment marking. Polestar's UK owner's manual state that cars are delivered on tyres carrying the POL marking, and Polestar says these are adapted to the car.
Michelin's own guide to sidewall markings lists POL against Polestar in the same way it lists MO for Mercedes or AO for Audi.
Worth being clear about what that does and doesn't mean. A POL tyre has been developed to work to the specifications of the car.
Usually focusing on the performance in regards to grip, rolling resistance and cabin noise. However, it is worth noting that this is a manufacturer recommendation - rather than a legal requirement.
A correctly sized, correctly load and speed rated tyre without the marking is legal and should pass an MOT.

Polestar 2 owners can find their size here: 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20. For the 3 and the 4, start with 255/50 R20 and 255/45 R21.
What Polestar fits at the factory
Polestar doesn't have a single tyre partner. The Polestar 4 coupé leaves the factory on Pirelli P Zero E tyres.
The Polestar 4 SUV on Hankook iON evo SUV tyres - according to Polestar's UK specification pages. The Polestar 3 Performance pack is also a P Zero car.
That's useful context when you come to replace them. There is no single "Polestar tyre" to go back to. Plenty of owners switch brand at the first change. Usually because they want something quieter, longer lasting or better suited to a British winter than the summer tyre the car arrived on.
Michelin Pilot Sport EV
The Pilot Sport EV is Michelin's summer tyre for performance electric cars. , It could be considered to be the closest like-for-like replacement for a Polestar. It is made in the sizes that are required - including 245/45 R19 for the Polestar 2, 255/50 R20 and 285/45 R20 for the Polestar 3, and 255/45 R21 for the Polestar 4.
Michelin says the tyre adds 60km of range to a high performance EV. That cornering stiffness is up 15% against the Pilot Sport 4 SUV, and that its Acoustic Technology foam insert cuts perceived noise by 20%.
Those are Michelin's own figures. Each tied to a named test size in the footnotes on the manufacturer's own product page.
Some Pilot Sport EV sizes are produced with a POL marking for Polestar, which is the version to look for if you want the factory specification.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport
For a lot of Polestar owners this is the more sensible buy. The CrossClimate 3 Sport is an all-season tyre built for heavier, faster cars.
It won the award for Best All Season Tyres in the DriverReviews 2026/27 Customer Choice Awards, which are drawn from more than 546,000 verified driver reviews covering 1.4 billion kilometres.
Every size carries the 3PMSF severe snow marking, which matters more than it used to if you ever take the car north in January.

Do you need winter tyres for a Polestar?
Polestar’s owner’s manual says all-season tyres give slightly better grip on slippery surfaces than tyres without the all-season classification. But for icy or snow-covered roads Polestar recommends winter tyres ( Polestar UK manual).
However, given the climate of the UK, a good all-season tyre is a practical compromise.
If you live somewhere that gets consistently below freezing for over a week at a time, then the Michelin Alpin 7 won Best Winter SUV Tyre in the DriverReviews Winter Customer Choice Awards 2026/27, with the Bridgestone Blizzak 6 taking the car category.
When to replace them
The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the full circumference.
Below that the tyre is a major defect at MOT and the car fails, as set out in the DVSA inspection manual.
Aside from the legal requirements, it’s worth noting that if the tread on your tyres is still ok, Polestar still recommends changing tyres after six years of normal use. This is due to the fact that rubber deteriorates whether or not the car is driven. Cracking or discolouration means the tyre should be changed straight away.
Polestar also notes that cars fitted with its extra-high performance tyre and wheel combinations may have a service life of less than 20,000 miles. This is, again, depending on the conditions.
Are premium tyres worth it on a Polestar?
On a car this heavy, yes.
Tyres designed to perform down to the legal tread limit hold their wet braking as they wear. This can be where cheaper tyres tend to fall away. On a 2.3 tonne car with instant torque there is a lot of work going through four contact patches the size of a handprint.
Rolling resistance feeds directly into range. Polestar mentions electricity consumption in the same section as the POL marking.
A tyre that costs more per set but lasts longer and costs you less in charging can be the cheaper option over three years.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to use POL marked tyres on my Polestar?
No. Polestar recommends it to keep the car's handling, comfort and efficiency as delivered. However, any appropriate tyre in the correct size with the correct load and speed rating is legal and would likely pass an MOT.
What size tyres does a Polestar 2 use?
245/45 R19 on 19-inch wheels and 245/40 R20 on 20-inch wheels. The same size front and rear. The rear rims are wider than the fronts, so the wheels are not interchangeable between axles.
Can you rotate the tyres on a Polestar 3?
Not front to back. The 3 runs a staggered fitment with a wider tyre at the rear on every wheel size. Front and rear tyres are different and cannot be swapped.
What are the best all-season tyres for a Polestar?
The Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport is the strongest option for the Polestar 2 and the Polestar 3 on 20-inch wheels. It won Best All Season Tyres in the DriverReviews 2026/27 Customer Choice Awards. The Continental AllSeasonContact 2 is a good alternative in Polestar 2 sizes.
Do EV tyres make a difference to range?
They do. Rolling resistance is one of the bigger variables an owner can control, and EV-specific tyres are built with lower rolling resistance compounds. Michelin quotes 60km of extra range for the Pilot Sport EV against the comparison tyre in its own testing.
How long do Polestar tyres last?
It depends on the fitment and how the car is driven. Polestar itself says extra-high performance tyre and wheel combinations may last under 20,000 miles. A softer all-season tyre on 19-inch wheels will usually go further.
Are Polestar tyres more expensive than normal tyres?
They tend to be, mostly because of size. Polestars run large diameters, wide sections and high load ratings, and there are fewer products made in those sizes.
