Michelin are the world’s leading tyre brand, making their name of some of the most sought-after products on the market.
From winter tyres to summer tyres, Michelin have decades of expertise and experience that they have built on through manufacturing premium tyres to this day.
One very popular tyre model series Michelin have been innovating and expanding on is their Primacy series, a range of tyres that mostly consist of summer tyres, but are full of top quality models.
This range consists of both their Primacy 4 and Primacy 5 tyres, two summer tyres that define premium tyre innovation.
Given the success of the Primacy 4 and other Primacy generations, it’s safe to say that the all-new Primacy 5 should become a flagship tyre in the premium tyre market for years to come.
This article will be comparing both the Primacy 4 and 5 by outlining key features of the two summer tyre models.
The Michelin Primacy 4 is a premium tyre that has been manufactured by Michelin since its debut in 2017.
While this tyre is fundamentally a summer option, it truly shines in wet weather, owing to Michelin's EverGrip technology. This clever feature boosts water dispersal by 22%, even as the tyre wears, thereby maintaining an exceptional level of grip when roads are slick.
Additionally, Michelin's MaxTouch Construction is integrated into the Primacy 4, enhancing traction during acceleration, forceful braking, and cornering, resulting in a more confident drive.
It's worth noting that the Primacy 4's durability is also exceptional, typically lasting an impressive 11,000 miles longer than rival tyres, which clearly highlights its remarkable lifespan.
The Michelin Primacy 4 took the place of its earlier iteration, the Primacy 3, back in 2017.
The all-new Michelin Primacy 5, a summer tyre making its worldwide debut in 2025, is poised to establish a new benchmark for performance in its category.
The Primacy 5 boasts a significant 18% improvement in mileage and a 4% decrease in wet braking distance when new.
This premium summer tyre incorporates Michelin's EverGrip and EverTread technologies to boost both its lifespan and its ability to channel water away effectively.
Michelin’s MaxTouch technology optimizes the tyre's contact with the road surface, resulting in enhanced performance during acceleration, braking, and cornering. This technology also contributes to an extended tread life without compromising safety.
Considering the impressive history of prior Primacy iterations, we anticipate the Primacy 5 to become one of Michelin's most successful tyre models for the foreseeable future.

Since its debut, the Michelin Primacy 4 has racked up a host of awards and commendations from tyre experts across the globe.
A real highlight was in 2021, when the Primacy 4 secured the coveted WhatTyre ‘Summer Tyre of the Year’ title. This was awarded in recognition of WhatTyre’s appreciation for the tyre's outstanding ‘AA’ rating for wet grip and rolling resistance, coupled with Michelin’s dedication to ensuring consistent grip and handling throughout the tyre’s service life.
The next year, the Primacy 4's success continued at the WhatTyre Tyre of the Year Awards, where it was crowned ‘SUV Tyre of the Year.’
In 2022, DriverReviews also shone a light on the Michelin Primacy 4 in their inaugural customer choice awards, where it received a “Highly Recommended” badge in the ‘Best Tyres for Family Cars’ segment.
In a relatively brief period, the Michelin Primacy 4 has firmly cemented its position as a leading contender in the tyre world, earning high praise from professionals and critics alike.
As the Michelin Primacy 5 is a new release, there has not been any tyre awards or test wins as of the date of writing (02/01/2025).
Once the Primacy 5 has garnered these accolades, which is to be expected, this article will be updated accordingly.
