Michelin Primacy 5 vs Pilot Sport 5

Michelin Primacy 5 vs Pilot Sport 5

Michelin are known for their premium tyre manufacturing and have been the number one leading tyre brand globally for a number of years now.

Their newly released tyre, the Primacy 5, has garnered attention since Michelin unveiled the model in January 2025.

Another fairly recent model by Michelin is the Pilot Sport 5, a premium summer tyre released by the French tyre brand in 2022.

This article will compare the features of both products to determine what makes these tyres such sought after models.

Primacy 5 Overview

New for 2025, the Michelin Primacy 5 summer tyre builds on the acclaimed Primacy 4+ with impressive advancements.

Boasting 18% more mileage and a 4% shorter wet braking distance (when new) compared to its predecessor, the Primacy 5 sets a new benchmark.

This premium tyre leverages Michelin's EverGrip and EverTread technologies for exceptional longevity and superior water evacuation.

Furthermore, MaxTouch construction maximises road contact, resulting in enhanced acceleration, braking, and cornering performance, all while extending tread life without sacrificing safety.

Given the legacy of the Primacy line, the Primacy 5 is poised to become one of Michelin's most popular tyres for years to come.

Pilot Sport 5 Overview

Launched globally in 2022 as the successor to the Pilot Sport 4, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 is a premium summer tyre.

This flagship model features Dynamic Response Technology for exceptional steering responsiveness and driving precision.

Its innovative Dual Sport Tread Design, incorporating large longitudinal grooves in the inner tread, delivers superior wet and dry braking performance.

Adding to its appeal is the sophisticated Premium Velvet Touch Sidewall design, improving the exterior style of the tyre.

The Pilot Sport 5's performance has earned it original equipment status on several car models, including the Volkswagen Polo.

Primacy 5 Awards

The Michelin Primacy 5, newly released in 2025, is too recent to have garnered any awards or test wins as of this writing (03/01/2025).

However, given its impressive performance across the board during rigorous in-house tyre tests, we confidently predict numerous accolades for this summer tyre in the years ahead.

Pilot Sport 5 Awards

Since its launch, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 has earned significant recognition through awards and positive test results.

In 2023, it received "Highly Recommended" in the ‘Best Tyres for Hot Hatches’ category and "Commended" in the ‘Best Tyres for Large Family Cars’ category at the DriverReviews Customer Choice Awards.

A year later in 2024, the PS5 was heralded as the winner for the ‘Best Tyres for Hot Hatches’ award at the DriverReviews Customer Choice Awards.

Prior to its global launch, the tyre's design was also honoured with a Red Dot Award for "Contemporary Good Design" in 2021.

These accolades represent just the beginning for this high-performing tyre.
