Trailer Tyre Pressure

Trailer tyre pressure is an essential aspect of maintaining the safety and efficiency of your trailer.

Proper tyre pressure ensures better fuel economy, improved handling and braking, and a longer tyre life.

The recommended tyre pressure for your trailer will depend on the type of trailer, load weight, and tyre size.

How to check trailer tyre pressure?

To check the tyre pressure of your trailer, follow these steps:

1. First, ensure that the tyres are cool, as tyres that have recently been drive with can give a false reading.

2. Locate the recommended tyre pressure for your trailer in the owner's manual.

3. Remove the valve cap from the tyre valve stem and attach a tyre pressure gauge.

4. Press the gauge firmly onto the valve stem to get an accurate reading.

5. If the pressure is too low, add air until it reaches the recommended pressure. If the pressure is too high, release air until it reaches the recommended pressure.

6. Repeat the process for all the tyres.

How do you calculate PSI for a trailer tyre?

To calculate the PSI for your a trailer tyre, you need to know what the recommended tyre pressure is for your specific trailer.

Once you have this, use a tyre pressure gauge to measure the current pressure in the tyre.

If the pressure is too low, add air until it reaches the recommended pressure. If the pressure is too high, release air.

Why are trailer pressures so high?

You may notice that trailer tyre pressures are typically higher than passenger car tyres – this is down to the increased load carrying capacity required.

The higher pressure helps to distribute the weight of the trailer more evenly. Resulting in an optimal performance and longer lifespan.

It's important to always follow the manufacturer's recommended tyre pressure for your specific trailer - to ensure safe and efficient operation.
