How to correct tyre pressure – inflate & deflate a tyre

You will likely see this come up a lot on Blackcircles.com. Maintaining the correct tyre pressure of your tyres is incredibly important. It helps to maintain the optimal performance of your vehicle. It makes sure that the safety aspects of your car are working correctly (good handling, reliable braking, etc). And, it ensures your tyres last for as long as possible.

If your tyre pressure is wrong, it is very important that you fix the situation as quickly as possible. It may be that you need to add air to the tyre, or it might be that you need to take some air out.

How to inflate tyres

Use a tyre pump or an air compressor to add air pressure. First remove the valve cap and insert the tyre pump end or air hose into the end of the the valve stem. Use a reader to check the current pressure of the tyre. Once you know how much the pressure is off by, you can inflate the tyre until it reaches the recommended tyre pressure. Once you have done this Recheck the tyre pressure to ensure it is at the recommended level.

How to reduce tyre pressure

If your tyres are overinflated, you will need to release air from them. Remove the valve cap from the tyre and press the valve stem with a small object, such as a pen or the end of a tyre pressure gauge. Check the tyre pressure gauge to read the current tyre pressure. Release air from the tyre until it reaches the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle. Most gauges come with a button that you can press when it is attached to the valve. This will release the air inside. Do this in short bursts so you do not remove too much air. Recheck the tyre pressure once you have adjusted it to ensure it meets the recommended level.
