How to correct tyre pressure – inflate & deflate a tyre

Maintaining the correct tyre pressure is important for both performance, safety and longevity.

How to inflate tyres

1. If your tyres are underinflated, you will need to add air to them using a tyre pump or an air compressor.

2. Remove the valve cap from the tyre and press the tyre pump or air hose onto the valve stem.

3. Check the tyre pressure gauge to read the current tyre pressure.

4. Inflate the tyre until it reaches the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle.

5. Recheck the tyre pressure once you have adjusted it to ensure it meets the recommended level.

How to reduce tyre pressure

1. If your tyres are overinflated, you will need to release air from them.

2. Remove the valve cap from the tyre and press the valve stem with a small object, such as a pen or the end of a tyre pressure gauge.

3. Check the tyre pressure gauge to read the current tyre pressure.

4. Release air from the tyre until it reaches the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle. Most gauges come with a button that you can press when it is attached to the valve. This will release the air inside. Do this in short bursts so you do not remove too much air.

5. Recheck the tyre pressure once you have adjusted it to ensure it meets the recommended level.
