What is the minimum legal tyre pressure in the UK?

There is no specific legal minimum limit for tyre pressure.

However, your tyres do need to be roadworthy. If a tyre is deemed to have tyres that under inflated to a dangerous level – whereby they are no longer able to function correctly and increase the risk of accidents – then you could face a serious fine and points on your licence.

When tyre pressure is too low, the tread surface area in contact with the road increases. This in turn increases the level of friction, which can cause overheating. Overheating is affects the integrity of the tyre – leading to premature wear, tread separation, and eventually, in extreme circumstances a tyre blowout.
