When should I replace the battery in an EV?

There is no concrete definitive answer on when an EV’s battery will require to be replaced.

Most EV manufacturers have a warranty on their vehicle’s battery of 8 years. Although it is recommended that you check your own warranty agreement to see how long the agreement is for your vehicle.

Current predictions for the current generation of EV batteries being used, is that an electric car battery will be fit for purpose for 10–20 years, before a replacement EV battery is required.

Certain factors will affect the lifespan of an EV’s battery. Including, but not limited to the following:

  • Temperature
  • Charging habits
  • Driving style
  • Age/generation of the battery pack
