How does EV servicing differ from petrol or diesel?

EV servicing is generally simpler and less frequent than servicing for petrol or diesel vehicles.

This is because electric vehicles have fewer moving parts and don’t require maintenance on items like engine oil, spark plugs, fuel filters, or exhaust systems, which are common in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Instead, EV servicing focuses on components unique to electric vehicles, such as:
  • Battery health checks
  • Electric motor and drive system inspections
  • Software updates
  • Charging port and cable inspections
That said, EVs still share many components with petrol and diesel cars, including tyres, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, and steering – all of which require regular checks.

In particular, electric vehicles can be heavier due to the battery, which can cause more wear on tyres and brakes.

Overall, EVs typically require less frequent and less costly servicing, but they still need routine checks to stay safe, reliable, and efficient.
