Does an electric vehicle need brake fluid replacement?

Yes, electric vehicles (EVs) still use brake fluid, and it needs to be replaced periodically – just like in petrol or diesel cars.

While EVs rely heavily on regenerative braking, which reduces wear on brake pads and discs, they still have conventional hydraulic braking systems that use fluid to transfer force.

Over time, brake fluid can absorb moisture, reducing its effectiveness and potentially compromising braking performance.

Most manufacturers recommend replacing brake fluid every two to three years, but it’s always best to check your owner’s manual for the specific interval for your vehicle.

Regular brake fluid replacement helps maintain safe, responsive braking, even in an EV.
