Why is MOT important?

An MOT is important as it ensures the vehicle meets current road safety and environmental standards.

It helps to ensure that the vehicles on the road are safe and therefore reduces the risks of accidents on public roads due to defective or unfit vehicles.

It is also a legal requirement. Making it important to ensure you adhere to the MOT regulations and have your vehicles checked annually once they have passed the designated age – depending on the class of vehicle you own.

Failure to comply with the MOT legal requirements can result in a fine of up to £2,500, points on your licence and, in extreme circumstances, a driving ban.

Driving without a valid MOT can also affect your car insurance coverage, potentially causing it to become invalid.
