Does insurance cover no MOT?

No, insurance would not cover a vehicle not having a valid MOT certificate.

Most car insurance policies require that a vehicle has a valid MOT certificate. If the vehicle does not have this, then it is likely your insurance policy would be deemed void - leaving you unable to claim in the event of an accident.

There are only a handful of instances where an insurance provider may allow you to take out a policy on a car without an MOT certificate. These include:

  • The vehicle is MOT exempt - i.e. certain aged vintage and classic cars.
  • You are only planning to drive the vehicle to a pre-booked MOT Test appointment.
