Why Porsche Is Demanding On Tyres
A Porsche places specific demands on its tyres. There are a few reasons for this:
Power and torque. Strong power need tyres with the grip and construction to ensure considered and responsive control.
Staggered fitments. Most models run narrower fronts and wider rears, so front and rear tyres aren't always interchangeable.

What The "N" Marking Means
Porsche was the first manufacturer to introduce its own tyre-approval seal.
Tyres developed and signed off with Porsche carry an "N" marking on the sidewall - i.e. N0, N1, N2 and so on - where each number denotes a later revision of the specification for that model.
The "N" stands for Nürburgring. This is the location where the tyres are extensively tested during the development.
It is worth noting that a higher number isn't necessarily a "better" tyre; it's a newer specification. You match the marking your car was built around. You'll find this on the tyre placard in the driver's door jamb and in the handbook.
The approved version can differ from the standard retail version of the same name in compound, construction and tread detail.
Newer electric Porsches use platform-specific markings too. For example NF0 on the Taycan, NE0 on the Macan Electric and NG0 on the Cayenne Electric.
Match Front To Rear
In our own fitting data the 911, 718, Taycan and Panamera almost all appear as staggered pairs rather than a single size across both front and rear axles.
What this means, is that you usually can't buy four of one size. However, we do recommend that when ordering a new set of tyres for your Porsche, you should keep the make, pattern and N-marking matched across each axle. Ideally front-to-rear, because the approved tyres are engineered as a set.
As the range from Porsche has grown, the same size can be a front on one model and a rear on another. This is why it is always important that you go from your car's placard, not a size quoted elsewhere.
