Tyre Safety Month 2026: The Campaign May Be Ending, But Tyre Safety Never Stops

Tyre Safety Month 2026 - Act Before You REact

Tyre Safety Month 2026 may be drawing to a close, but the importance of looking after your tyres doesn't end when October does.

Throughout the month, Blackcircles has been proud to support TyreSafe's Act Before You REact campaign, helping raise awareness of the role tyres play in keeping drivers, passengers and other road users safe.

From exploring the realities of stopping distances and driver confidence to sharing expert advice on regular tyre maintenance, our goal has been simple: to help more motorists understand their tyres and take action before problems arise.

But as we reach the end of this year's campaign, there's one message we want every driver to take away.

Tyre safety is a year-round responsibility, and a few minutes spent checking your tyres could make all the difference when it matters most.

Looking back at Tyre Safety Month 2026

This year's TyreSafe campaign, Act Before You REact, challenged drivers to think about the difference between believing they're prepared for the road and making sure their vehicle actually is.

It's an important distinction.

You might be a confident, experienced driver, but even the best driving skills cannot compensate for tyres that aren't in a safe condition.

Throughout October, we explored some of the common misconceptions surrounding tyre safety, including the belief that stopping distances are entirely within a driver's control.

We also looked at how near misses can serve as an important reminder to check your vehicle, and why regular tyre maintenance should become a habit rather than something drivers only think about when a problem occurs.

Working alongside TyreSafe, we shared expert insight and practical guidance to help motorists better understand the risks associated with poorly maintained tyres.

And while October has provided an important opportunity to bring these conversations into focus, the issues we've highlighted aren't limited to one month of the year.

Why tyre safety matters every day of the year

In 2025, 201 people were killed or seriously injured in incidents involving defective tyres, according to figures highlighted by TyreSafe.

Behind every one of those figures is a person whose life, or whose family's life, has been affected.

It's a reminder that tyre safety isn't simply about passing an MOT, avoiding a fine or getting the most mileage from a set of tyres.

It's about protecting people.

Whether you're driving to work, taking the children to school, visiting family or heading away for a weekend, your tyres are the only parts of your vehicle designed to remain in contact with the road.

They play a critical role in braking, steering and maintaining grip, particularly when conditions become challenging.

And those challenges change throughout the year.

Autumn brings wetter roads and falling temperatures. Winter can mean ice, snow and standing water. Spring often brings unpredictable weather, while summer can mean longer journeys, heavier loads and increased tyre temperatures.

Whatever the season, your tyres need to be ready.

That's why the most important outcome of Tyre Safety Month isn't simply greater awareness during October. It's encouraging drivers to build safer habits that last throughout the year.

Five simple ways to protect yourself and the people you love

The good news is that taking better care of your tyres doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming.

Here are five practical steps every driver can take.

1. Make the ACT check a monthly habit

At the heart of TyreSafe's campaign is a simple reminder: ACT – Air Pressure, Condition and Tread.

Make these checks at least once a month and before longer journeys.

A useful way to build the habit is to set a recurring reminder on your phone. It only takes a few minutes, but it could help identify a problem before it becomes dangerous.

2. Check your tyres before family journeys

Planning a weekend away, a family holiday or a longer drive to visit loved ones?

Add tyre checks to your preparation, alongside checking your fuel or charge level and planning your route.

Make sure your tyre pressures are suitable for the load you're carrying, check the tread and inspect each tyre for visible damage.

If you're travelling with children, friends or family, it's a small step you can take to help protect everyone in the vehicle.

3. Don't ignore changes in how your car feels

Sometimes, your vehicle may give you clues that something isn't quite right.

Unusual vibrations, a change in handling, your car pulling to one side or a tyre pressure warning light can all be reasons to investigate further.

Don't simply assume the issue will go away.

If you notice a change, stop somewhere safe and assess the situation. Where necessary, arrange for your tyres or vehicle to be inspected before continuing your journey.

4. Help the people around you stay tyre safe

Tyre safety doesn't have to stop with your own vehicle.

Think about the people you care about. Perhaps you have a family member who has recently started driving, a friend who rarely checks their tyres or a loved one preparing for a long journey.

Sharing a simple reminder about tyre pressure, condition and tread could encourage them to make a check they might otherwise overlook.

You could even take a few minutes to show a new driver how to find their recommended tyre pressures or measure tread depth.

The more people who understand these basics, the more opportunities there are to prevent avoidable tyre-related problems.

5. Don't wait until your MOT to check your tyres

An MOT provides an important assessment of your vehicle's roadworthiness at the time of the test, but it isn't a substitute for ongoing maintenance.

Tyres can lose pressure, become damaged or wear unevenly between MOTs.

And just because a tyre meets the legal minimum tread depth doesn't necessarily mean it will perform as well as a tyre with more tread, particularly in wet conditions.

If you're concerned about your tyres, seek professional advice rather than waiting for your next MOT.

Remember, being road legal and being prepared for challenging driving conditions aren't always the same thing.

Blackcircles and TyreSafe: Working together for safer roads

Making tyre safety a regular part of vehicle ownership requires more than one campaign or organisation.

It takes consistent education, practical advice and collaboration across the automotive industry.

That's why partnerships between organisations such as TyreSafe and Blackcircles are so important.

As Stuart Lovatt, Director and Chair of TyreSafe, explains:

"Organisations such as TyreSafe and Blackcircles.com have an important role to play in making those checks part of normal vehicle ownership. By providing road users with accurate, practical information throughout the year – not simply when they are thinking about buying tyres – we can help make preventative maintenance a habit."

It's a message that reflects our own ambitions at Blackcircles.

Throughout October, we've worked to make tyre safety information more accessible, relevant and practical for everyday motorists. But our commitment doesn't stop here.

Blackcircles and TyreSafe

Nyo Logan, our SEO, Content & PR at Blackcircles, who planned and coordinated the company's Tyre Safety Month activity, said:

"Tyre Safety Month has given us a fantastic opportunity to work alongside TyreSafe and bring important safety messages to more drivers across the UK. But for us, this has never been about raising awareness for just 31 days.

"We want to make tyre safety advice a consistent part of what we do at Blackcircles, helping motorists understand how to look after their tyres, recognise potential problems and make informed decisions throughout the year.

"Whether it's someone checking their tyre pressures for the first time or a family preparing for a long journey, if the information we share encourages even one more person to take those few minutes to check their tyres, that's a positive step towards safer roads for everyone.

"Our commitment is to keep sharing these messages long after October ends, because tyre safety matters every day of the year."

Expert tyre advice, available all year round

While Tyre Safety Month provides an important opportunity to raise awareness, we know that questions about tyre safety don't stop when October ends.

That's why Blackcircles' dedicated Expert Tyre Advice and Safety page is available throughout the year, giving motorists access to practical guidance whenever they need it.

Whether you're unsure how to check your tyre tread, want to understand the correct tyre pressures for your vehicle or need help recognising the signs of tyre damage, our advice is designed to make tyre maintenance easier to understand.

From everyday tyre checks to preparing for seasonal driving conditions, the page brings together useful information to help drivers make informed decisions and feel better prepared for the road ahead.

It's also somewhere you can direct friends and family who might need a little extra guidance on looking after their tyres.

By keeping expert advice accessible 365 days a year, we want to help make tyre safety something motorists think about regularly, rather than only when a warning light appears or it's time for an MOT.

Expert Tyre Advice and Safety

October is ending. Our commitment isn't.

Tyre Safety Month 2026 has helped put an important issue in the spotlight, but the real opportunity is what happens next.

If more drivers check their tyres regularly, recognise warning signs earlier and encourage the people around them to do the same, we can help make preventative tyre maintenance a normal part of everyday driving.

At Blackcircles, we'll continue working to make tyre safety information accessible throughout the year, supporting motorists with advice and guidance that goes beyond simply choosing and buying new tyres.

So, as October comes to an end, we'd encourage you to take one simple action.

Before your next journey, check your tyres. And remind someone you care about to check theirs, too.

Because you can't always predict what happens on the road. But you can take steps to be better prepared.

Air Pressure. Condition. Tread.

ACT before you REact. This month, next month and every month!
