Servicing your car is important for 3 key reasons - safety, performance, and long-term value.
Regular car servicing can spot issues before they turn into bigger problems, whilst also helping to improve fuel economy.
There are several servicing options available for most cars, which can make it difficult knowing which service your vehicle needs. Should you book an Interim, a Full, or a Major service?
An Interim Service is a shorter check-up. It focuses on essentials such as an oil and filter change, brake inspection, tyre condition, fluid top-ups, and a general health check. It’s not as detailed as other services — but it helps to keep your car safe and running efficiently.
Best for:
A Full Service is more of a standard annual check, covering more components and checks than the interim service.
Best for:
A Major Service goes even further than a Full Service. In addition to all the usual checks, it includes parts that only need replacing every two years or so.
Best for:
The following is a summary of the different service types:
| Service Type | When It’s Due | What’s Included | Who It Suits Most |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interim Service | Every 6 months or 6,000 miles | Oil & filter change, fluid top-ups, basic safety checks | High-mileage drivers |
| Full Service | Every 12 months or 12,000 miles | 70+ checks: engine, brakes, suspension, tyres, filters | Average drivers, annual upkeep |
| Major Service | Every 24 months (or every second service) | Full service + brake fluid, cabin filter, spark plugs | Older cars, long-term owners |
If you aren’t sure what is the best option for your vehicle, you can use our simple tool below*.
For vehicles under warranty/lease, follow the manufacturer’s schedule. Items shown may vary by model.
Tip: A Full Service is typically recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles; a Major Service every 24 months or 24,000 miles. Interim Services help between major intervals, especially for high-mileage drivers.
*Please note — this tool is designed to provide general guidance only and should not be taken as a definitive recommendation. Service intervals and requirements vary between vehicles, and your manufacturer’s handbook should always be the first point of reference. If you’re unsure which service is right for your car, or if your vehicle has specific issues, we strongly recommend speaking directly with a qualified mechanic before booking.
