BTCC Points System – How It Works

Success in the British Touring Car Championship isn’t just about crossing the line first, it’s about scoring consistently across every race weekend.

With three races per round, bonus points for performance, and multiple titles in play, the BTCC points system is designed to reward both outright pace and smart, strategic driving.

Whether you’re following your favourite team or keeping an eye on the championship battle, here’s how the scoring works in detail.

BTCC Race Points

Points are awarded to the top 15 finishers in each race as follows:

Drivers must finish in the top 15 of the race to score points.

BTCC Bonus Points

In addition to race position points, drivers can earn bonus points throughout the weekend:

• Pole Position (Race 1 only): 1 point awarded to the driver who qualifies on pole.
   
• Fastest Lap (all races): 1 point for the driver with the fastest lap time in each race.
   
• Leading a Lap: 1 point awarded to any driver who leads at least one full lap during a race (maximum of one point per race regardless of how many laps are led).
   

This system means drivers can earn up to 24 points per race if they win, set the fastest lap, and lead at least one lap.

Championships In BTCC

The BTCC runs multiple concurrent championships, all using this points structure:

• Drivers’ Championship
   
• Teams’ Championship
   
• Manufacturers’ / Constructors’ Championship
   
• Independent Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships
   
• Jack Sears Trophy (for drivers who haven’t previously scored an overall podium)
