Why do different garages charge different prices for servicing?

The cost of servicing a car will vary depending on the type of service, the make, the model and the age of the car.

A car service is not the same for every make and model. There are basic checks which are carried out on each car, but there is also a variety of inspections specific to different models.

As well as this, the components of modern cars are becoming more complex, and as such the length of time required to correctly check and test these has increased. The length of a car service will have a bearing on the total cost of the service.

The cost of replacement parts and/or oil also impacts the cost of a service. The parts required by one manufacturer may vary from another – with some recommending more premium replacement parts.

These will tend to come with a higher price tag, affecting the overall cost of a service.

Fundamentally, the cost of a service is often calculated based on the requirements of your car – rather than a flat and standard fee.
