Michelin developed the XWX to meet the needs of the high-performance cars emerging in the early 1970s, as European manufacturers pushed toward ever-higher road speeds.

Its internal architecture was designed specifically around sustained high-speed use.

VR Speed Rating Construction

The XWX was built to a VR speed rating, giving it the structural capability to be driven at sustained high speeds. This allowed it to be fitted as original equipment to some of the fastest production cars of its era.

Flexible Radial Carcass

The tyre's internal construction uses a flexible carcass architecture. This design is intended to deliver a combination of speed, driving pleasure and comfort, keeping the ride composed even under high-speed conditions.
 

Michelin Classic Collection

The XWX remains available today through Michelin's classic tyre range. This means owners of period-correct high-performance classics can still source a tyre matched to their vehicle's original specification.
