The iconic Range Rover is getting a sustainable makeover, leading the charge as the first model to feature tyres made with over 70% renewable and recycled materials. This isn't just a cosmetic upgrade or radical rebranding; it's a significant step towards a greener future for the ultimate go-anywhere vehicle.
For decades, the Range Rover has been synonymous with luxury, capability, and a certain sense of adventure. But now, following its fearless rebranding of the Jaguar label, it's shaking up its repertoire again with a focus on sustainability. JLR is making a statement by debuting these innovative tyres on the Range Rover, signalling a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its most prestigious model.

Imagine traversing a muddy field or cruising down the motorway, all while knowing your tyres aren't impacting your drive to a more sustainable future. That's the reality JLR is aiming for with the new P Zero tyres, developed in collaboration with Pirelli specifically for the Range Rover. The key is the innovative use of renewable and recycled materials. Namely, with rice husk silica, plant-based polymers, and recycled carbon black.
The silica, essential for maintaining excellent wet weather performance, is now sourced from a unique silica compound. This cleverly repurposes agricultural waste, reducing the demand for conventionally sourced silica. Equally, the fossil fuel-derived synthetic polymers and resins are replaced with alternatives made from agricultural by-products and even used cooking oils.

And lastly, Pirelli and JLR have swapped critical structural elements, like the steel belts within the tyre, with alternatives from recycled sources. The carbon black, vital for strength and durability, is also recovered from end-of-life tyres. This closed loop tyre recycling system is similarly being developed by other premium manufacturers, like Continental’s carbon black recovery with Pyrum Innovations, as they strive towards their own sustainability targets.
And where Pirelli and JLR couldn’t source recycled materials, it comes from approved sources, such as their natural rubber which is certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
Let's be clear: this isn't about sacrificing Range Rover's legendary performance in the name of sustainability. JLR and Pirelli have worked tirelessly to ensure that these new tyres meet the exacting standards expected of a vehicle that can tackle everything from city streets to challenging off-road terrain.
The goal is a seamless driving experience, with the same levels of grip, handling, and durability you'd expect from any Range Rover tyre. The difference is that now, you can enjoy that performance with a clearer conscience.
The new sustainable tyres will be available as standard on select New Range Rover models where a 22" wheel is specified, marking the beginning of a wider rollout across JLR's other brands in the future.
So, what are your thoughts? Are you excited to see the Range Rover leading the charge towards more sustainable motoring? Would you consider specifying these eco-friendly tyres on your next Range Rover?
