Tamar Bridge Toll

Tamar Bridge Toll

The Tamar Bridge is a key crossing between Saltash in Cornwall and Plymouth in Devon, carrying tens of thousands of vehicles each day.

Whether you’re commuting, towing, or travelling through the region, understanding the current tolls and charging rules helps you plan your trip with no surprises.

Tamar Bridge Payment

The Tamar Bridge toll is one-way only. You only pay when travelling eastbound – that is when you are travelling from Saltash (Cornwall) to Plymouth (Devon).

When travelling via Westbound, this is free.

If you are travelling via a pedal bike, and/or mobility scooter you will not be charged.

Tamar Bridge Practical Tips

You only pay eastbound on the bridge. Whilst it’s worth remembering for riders that motorcycles are free on the Tamar Bridge. This is different on the Torpoint Ferry.

TamarTag is a quick and easy way to travel on the bridge. This opens the barrier automatically and halves most car/HGV tolls. It is a good option for commuters and fleets.

Don’t forget the trailer doubles your toll (same class as the towing vehicle).

For those looking for a receipt, card payments can provide a receipt. TamarTag customers get statements via their account.

Torpoint Ferry

If you are looking for alternatives to the Tamar Brige, there is always the Torpoint Ferry. The key differences between the two include the following:

Tamar Bridge FAQs

Do I pay both ways?

No. On the Tamar Bridge you pay eastbound only (Saltash to Plymouth).

Is there a cash lane?

Payment on the bridge is set up for card and TamarTag. If you need special assistance, contact the Bridge Office before you travel.

Is there a discount for EVs or blue badge holders?

There’s no general EV discount. Concessions are not routinely applied at the toll; check your TamarTag account or the operator for any eligible schemes.

I’m towing a caravan - how much is it?

Pay the car toll plus the same again for the trailer (e.g., car £3.00 + trailer £3.00 on card; with TamarTag £1.50 + £1.50).

Are bikes charged?

Pedal cycles and motorised invalid carriages are free. Motorcycles are free on the bridge (but £1 westbound on the Torpoint Ferry).
