Continental have numerous tyre series that are popular amongst customers today, with one of their most well-known models coming from the PremiumContact series.
The two latest generations of PremiumContact, the PremiumContact 6 and 7, are two popular summer tyre models that has garnered a lot of praise and attention from both industry experts and customers alike.
Given both tyres’ popularity and modern technology, comparing both models will paint a better picture of why these tyres are two of the leading summer tyres on the market today.
The Continental PremiumContact 6 is a high performance tyre manufactured by Continental since 2016.
A summer tyre designed for maximised performance, the PremiumContact 6 is developed with a ‘Safety Silica Compound’, ensuring constant grip on both wet and dry conditions making the tyre consistent throughout different seasonal driving surfaces.
An innovative tread design is also engineered to improve mileage of the tyre by 15% compared to its predecessor. This is achieved through a blend of abrasion-resistant polymer compound and a supple tread pattern.
The PremiumContact 6 has a high-tech tyre shoulder configuration that is developed for the Continental SportContact 6, providing additional grip that helps with traction during cornering.
Upon its release in 2016, the Continental PremiumContact 6 replaced the Continental PremiumContact 5.

Developed with adaptive tread pattern technology, the PremiumContact 7 features excellent grip on wet and dry roads, ensuring maximum safety all year round.
A new RedChilli compound is engineered for the PremiumContact 7, giving the tyre fantastic handling through enhanced braking distance. This further improves safety of the tyre, making sure motorists has the safest braking capabilities as possible.
Continental’s ContiSeal technology features on the PremiumContact 7. This technology is a sticky, viscous sealant layer that is applied to the inside of the tyre’s tread area, sealing 80% of all tyre punctures.
Upon its 2022 release, the PremiumContact 7 replaced the PremiumContact 6.

The Continental PremiumContact 6 has garnered many tyre test and award wins from industry experts since its 2016 release.
Back in 2019, Auto Express awarded the PremiumContact 6 with ‘Product of the Year’ in the summer tyre category. Auto Express justified their choice by stating that the PremiumContact 6 was “the best tyre to drive in both wet and dry”, and “there was a liveliness to its handling that no rival could match, and few could get close to.”
At the inaugural DriverReviews Customer Choice Awards in 2022, the PremiumContact 6 was awarded with the ‘Best Tyres for Large Family Cars’. This highlights the capabilities of the Continental model as it regards to larger vehicles such as SUVs/4x4s.
This Continental model has won multiple tyre tests for various tyre sizes and test categories. One standout test win was through ADAC’s Summer Tyre Test in 2021, where the PremiumContact 6 finished 1st out of 15 summer tyres, emphasising the Continental tyre standing out amongst its competitors.
These awards and tyre test wins show how successful the PremiumContact 6 has been for nearly a decade now.
Even with the PremiumContact 7 being a relatively new model for Continental, it has seen many tyre test successes since its 2022 release.
In 2023, Tyre Reviews conducted a Summer Touring Tyre Test for 205/55 R16 tyres, where the PremiumContact 7 finished 1st out of 13 summer tyres. The Continental summer tyre was heralded by Tyre Reviews, with them stating that the PremiumContact 7 had “a huge lead in wet braking, was joint fastest around wet handling, and had the fastest wet circle lap.”
2024 was also a strong year for the PremiumContact 7 as it relates to tyre test wins, with the Continental model gaining multiple wins, including ADAC’s Summer Tyre Test for 215/55 R17 tyres.
Another tyre test success arrived through the Sport Auto Summer Tyre Test, where the PremiumContact 7 finished 1st out of 6 tyres for 4 different summer tyre categories. According to SportAuto, main positives of the tyre are “Extremely controllable in wet conditions, great steering precision, high protection against aquaplaning. Agile on dry surfaces, stable in tracking, very safe.”
Much like its predecessor, the PremiumContact 7 has received many tyre test wins and accolades, showing the tyre’s fantastic performance capabilities.
