The LM is back: What prompted the revival from Lexus?

Short answer: The LM sold out on following its initial launch in January 2023 and now Lexus is back with stock to deliver. But is that all there is to it?

The ultimate people carrier is back in the UK, and it’s less about the driving and more about the reclining. Those with deep enough pockets can prepare for a touch of private jet luxury, without the airport queues.

The Lexus LM, a vehicle that’s more lounge than car, has proven so popular that it’s making a comeback on UK roads. Its initial launch late last year was met with such enthusiasm that it quickly sold out, causing quite a stir. So is popularity the only answer to its return? Further sources suggest that in consolidating the Lexus models, the LM won out over the LS in the Lexus, which was dropped — after 35 years — earlier this year.

It isn't your average school run chariot. The LM, a flagship Lexus model, is designed with a singular purpose: to provide an ultra-refined, chauffeur-driven experience. It’s the sort of vehicle that makes you question whether you should be wearing a suit or a silk dressing gown. Available in both four and seven-seat configurations, it combines the spaciousness of a people carrier with the plushness of a limousine. Power comes from a self-charging hybrid electric powertrain, offering drivers the choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive, apparently paired with  Michelin Primacy 5 tyres.

For those who truly want to push the boat out (or perhaps the champagne cooler), the top-of-the-range LM 350h Takumi four-seat model is where it’s at. This is where Lexus’s commitment to "takumi" craftsmanship and "omotenashi" hospitality truly shines.  So, what exactly makes this people mover so special:

Designed to relax

The LM has set up environmental control from the touch of your fingertips. From the audio system and climate control to seat functions, interior lighting, and even the window blinds, everything is managed via a slick, smartphone-like device. It’s effortless control, making you feel like a digital maestro of your own mobile kingdom.

When it comes to bums on seats, drivers and passengers alike can expect the highest quality L-aniline leather upholstery, adding a touch of sophisticated comfort. And forget about stiff backs. The power-adjustable seats don’t just recline; they go fully horizontal and come with seven different massage programmes. While the headrests are designed to cradle the top of your back, a welcome change from those that try to wrestle your neck into submission.

Fancy something chilled for the trip? A dedicated refrigerator box is on hand for passengers, apparently capable of holding two bottles of champagne. Essential for any luxury journey, wouldn't you agree.

Honed for work

Each passenger gets their own individual airline-style folding table. Perfect for a quick snack or perhaps just somewhere to get on with a spot of paperwork. If you do need to get on with work on the move, the LM is set up to power your devices with individual charging stations with USB ports and wireless charging trays seamlessly integrated into the side panels. Say goodbye to fighting over the charging point.

Room for play

A dimmable partition separates the front and rear cabins, creating a truly private space — ideal for your own private cinema. This partition houses a colossal 48-inch widescreen monitor, offering three viewing modes: full screen for a truly immersive experience, cinema mode for that big-screen feel, or even separate left and right screens for those with differing viewing preferences.

If you'd rather crank up the road trip play list, the LM is set with bespoke Mark Levinson 3D Surround Sound audio system, complete with 23 speakers. It’s designed to envelop you in rich, detailed sound.

All this opulence comes with a price tag starting from £94,595 on the road. It’s certainly an investment, but for those seeking the ultimate in chauffeured comfort, the Lexus LM appears to be rolling out the red carpet once more.

So, what’s your take on this ultimate luxury people carrier. Does it deserve the hype?
