Citroën shares new Dispatch van ‘does it all’

Side view of Dispatch

There’s no reason to feel jumpy about Citroën’s updated van model. From the earliest 2CV to Citroën’s latest Berlingo van, the French brand has met market demands for practicality with its commercial vehicles.

Now, with modernised technology and digital equipment, optimised storage, and a multitude of powertrain options, the new Citroën Dispatch looks set to hold its own, as we find out.

A little bit more than deux chevaux

Citroën set out to meet the needs of the modern professional with the new Dispatch. Available with either 120 bhp or 145 bhp BlueHDI diesel engine with a six-speed manual gearbox. Powerful and fuel-efficient, the diesel Dispatch offers the best of driving experience and business sense. Or, to meet ever widening low emissions zones, buyers can opt for the 100% electric E-dispatch, with 100 kW (136 bhp) engine. Now offering a further 12 miles than the earlier Dispatch model at 217 miles range.

Jumping through hoops for a better driving experience

Let’s start inside first, the steering wheel has been given a serious upgrade with integrated controls — driving aids, mobile phone connections, and radio — for a better driving experience. Did we mention it can be heated?

Citroën has added some swish to the infotainment system, which can now be accessed via a central HD 10-inch screen. Paired with a navigation network, it should streamline journey routes, helping drivers get to A and B with more ease.

A new feature that might turn a few heads, is the road sign reading technology, which feels more at home on a Mercedes S-class than this light commercial van but no less appreciated. Despite its volume capacity, the Dispatch will prove nifty around city streets with a 12.4m turning circle, made easier by the updated electric power steering. Plus, its practical 1.9m height to fit below most car park barriers. Citroën appears to have paired the new Dispatch with Michelin tyres, most likely Agilis CrossClimate for safety in every weather condition and provide an efficient and appealing driving experience from the get-go.

Modern working conditions with this office on wheels

Citroën is priding the Dispatch as a ‘real extension of the office’. From optimised hands-free phone call control to new storage devices on the upper section where the cup holders also act as mobile phone holsters, while other slots have been set up with tablets in mind.

And what is any office without its storage space? The Dispatch offers a load volume of up to 6.6m3 equal to Toyota’s updated Proace. Finally, remember a driver can make calls with ease using the integrated controls on the steering wheel.

It’s no wonder this Dispatch is one of the first models to proudly display Citroën's new identity and logo. But, will the Dispatch find its purpose in the UK market? We’ll have to wait and see.
