Dutch-born brand Vredestein has been at the forefront of all-seasons tyres since it first dived into the market in 1993 with the Quatrac. If your year-round tread is needing an upgrade, here's three reasons you might want to think Vredestein.

When we say tyres, several thoughts might come to mind: perhaps panic at another job on the to do list, the fear of British potholes, or certain French or Italian rubber wranglers. But when it comes to legacy European tyre makers at the forefront of development, there’s another name that should be on your lips: Vredestein.

1. European legacy

As early as 1908 — the year that marked the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s Wild Bunch and the Ford Model T began rolling off the production line —  Vredestein’s roots were planted. Founder Emilie Louis Constant Schiff bought the brand’s original factory and, following a rebrand to Vredestein, the brand has churned out high-quality bicycle and passenger car tyres ever since.  The firm’s Dutch heritage has set it up to partner with leading European brands and designers delivering forward-thinking style and performance — but more on that later.

2. Market-leading, award-winning innovation

To stay in this competitive field means that you can’t remain still, and Vredestein’s kept up with innovation product and technological advancements in tyre development. In 1993, the brand introduced Quatrac, its first all-season tyre for passenger cars, positioning itself at the forefront of the market and meeting the growing consumer demand for one tyre that can tame European roads all year round. The Quatrac has since gone on to win AutoExpress and AutoBild awards, marking out the tyre and the brand in the market.

But the brand’s thirst for forward-thinking creations wasn’t quenched, as Vredestein went on to deliver the world’s first run-flat all-season rubber in 2005. Then, in 2014, it created the market-leading Wintrac xtreme S tyre with Y-rated performance, helping deliver speeds up to 300 km/h in even the most wintery conditions – colour us impressed.

3. Land-mark partnerships

Designing a great tyre is all well and good, but to truly hone its performance it helps to have the right collaborations to push performance to the next level. That’s where Vredestein’s partnerships have come into play, allowing the brand to work closely with leading designers to discover the next areas of innovation in rubber technology.

Legendary Italian automotive designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, began working with the Dutch-based brand in 1999, welcoming a new era of design excellence for Vredestein. The results? Amplified quality and performance through a refined tread and sidewalls, without compromising on superior performance. Thus, the Ultrac Vorti was born, a name inspired by the power of vortex air flows, highlighting the extreme speeds and force this tyre can master.

Vredestein has also partnered with Dutch-based Niels van Roij Design, a little closer to home this time. This bespoke automotive design studio creates unique, award-winning coachbuilt vehicles, through a combination of state-of-the-art computer and design technology. To match the engineering and design of these inimitable vehicles, the studio chose to pair with Vredestein, fitting Vredestein rubber to its shooting brake car based on the Tesla Model S and, more recently, debuting the Ultrac Vorti+ rubber on its Breadvan hommage.

So, Vredestein has shown itself to be a key player in the global tyre market, drawing on its European heritage to score iconic partnerships in the motoring world and pushing its design and technology to play at the forefront of all-season tyres.

But what’s next for Vredestein? Well, the brand is on a race for a more sustainable future, already shown by its emphasis on low rolling-resistance in the Ultrac Vorti and Quatrac tyres. For now, though, only one question remains: will you be picking Vredestein for your next all-season rubber?
