The Jeep Avenger isn’t just an SUV to take you into the great outdoors, it comes with a bit of nature designed into it. Join Jonny Smith as he tours the Avenger and finds a tiny plastic ladybird embossed into the roof rails.
There’s plenty more to fascinate Jonny with the Avenger, which shares its name with the Hillman he fondly remembers from his childhood. However, the Jeep is right up to date and comes with EV power and a battery range of up to 248 miles on a full charge. Sharing its power pack and 156hp motor with the Vauxhall Mokka, the Avenger is still a Jeep at heart and has good ground clearance for dealing with tough tracks. Different drive modes help the Jeep here, even if it only comes with two-wheel drive.
Fortunately, there are 18-inch wheels with all-weather tyres to make sure the Avenger can shrug off slippery situations. There’s also tough plastic moulding all around the edges to protect the car from scuffs or, more likely, car park dings.
Inside, there’s plenty of space in the front and loads of headroom in the back, as well as a generous boot compared to many of its rivals. As you look out of the windscreen, you’ll also spot some of the other details that Jonny loves, such as the tiny stars in the top corner of the glass and, in the opposite bottom corner, the outline of the car’s designer and son looking at those stars through a telescope. It's all great fun and is part of the reason why the Jeep Avenger won the 2023 European Car of the Year title. So, come along with Jonny as he finds out what makes Jeep’s first EV car the winner of this prestigious award.
