October marks Tyre Safety Month, an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness of tyre safety and encouraging drivers across the UK to make regular tyre checks part of their routine.
This year, Blackcircles is once again supporting TyreSafe Tyre Safety Month, helping drivers understand just how important their tyres are when it comes to staying safe on the road.
Throughout October, we'll be sharing useful advice, practical tyre checks and safety-focused content designed to help motorists look after their tyres and be better prepared for whatever the road might bring.
Running from 1–31 October, Tyre Safety Month is organised by UK tyre safety charity TyreSafe.
The campaign aims to get motorists thinking about something that can easily be overlooked: the condition of the four tyres connecting their vehicle to the road.
Tyres play a critical role in braking, steering and maintaining grip. That becomes particularly important as we move into autumn, when drivers can face wetter roads, lower temperatures and more challenging conditions.
Tyre Safety Month is therefore an important reminder that a few simple checks can make a real difference.
TyreSafe is the UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of correct tyre maintenance and the dangers associated with defective and illegal tyres.
Established in 2006 and becoming a registered charity in 2016, TyreSafe works to reduce tyre-related incidents on Britain's roads by giving drivers the knowledge and practical advice they need to keep their tyres safe and roadworthy.
Its work goes well beyond Tyre Safety Month. Throughout the year, the charity runs educational campaigns, conducts and supports research, engages with policymakers and works alongside organisations from across the automotive and road safety sectors.
Today, more than 260 organisations work with TyreSafe, spanning government, enforcement, local authorities, road safety organisations and the automotive industry.
At the heart of that work is a straightforward ambition: zero harm to road users caused by illegal or poorly maintained tyres.
The theme of Tyre Safety Month 2026 is "Act Before You REact."

Every journey can bring something unexpected. It might be heavy rain (especially here in Scotland), a vehicle pulling out in front of you, an obstruction in the road or the need to brake suddenly.
While drivers cannot control everything that happens around them, they can take steps to make sure their vehicle – and particularly their tyres – is prepared.
That's where ACT comes in.
Check your tyre pressures regularly and make sure they match the pressures recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.
Correct tyre pressure is important for braking and handling, while also helping with fuel efficiency and tyre longevity.
Take a close look at each tyre for signs of damage or deterioration.
Look for cuts, cracks, bulges and objects embedded in the tread. If you spot something unusual or you're uncertain about the condition of a tyre, have it inspected by a tyre professional.
Your tyre tread helps maintain contact with the road, particularly when conditions are wet.

For passenger cars in the UK, the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around its entire circumference.
Drivers should check tread depth regularly rather than waiting until their tyres are approaching the legal limit.
As Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair, explains, the idea behind ACT is deliberately straightforward:
"Our message is deliberately simple: ACT – Air Pressure, Condition and Tread. Check your pressures regularly, look for cuts, cracks, bulges and other signs of damage or deterioration, and check your tread depth. We recommend doing this at least once a month and before longer journeys."
One of the central messages behind this year's campaign is the difference between feeling prepared behind the wheel and actually being prepared.
TyreSafe research published for the 2026 campaign found that 83% of drivers believe they are in full control of stopping distance. However, only 6% correctly identified stopping distance in wet conditions at motorway speeds.

The research also found that 38% of drivers had experienced a near miss during the previous 12 months, but only 11% checked their tyres afterwards.
It reinforces a simple point: driver confidence alone cannot determine how a vehicle will respond in an emergency.
The condition, pressure and tread of your tyres all matter when you suddenly need them to perform.
Tyre Safety Month might run for October, but tyre safety is important every day of the year.
That's why we have a full month of content planned at Blackcircles to support TyreSafe's message and help make looking after your tyres as straightforward as possible.

Across October, we'll be exploring the key themes behind this year's campaign, from braking and stopping distances to driver confidence, near misses and the simple checks that can help you prepare before you set off.
Most importantly, we'll be sharing practical information that drivers can put into action.
Because you can't predict every situation you'll encounter on the road. But you can make sure your tyres are ready for it.
This Tyre Safety Month, remember: Air pressure. Condition. Tread. ACT before you REact.
