Being two leading mid-range tyre brands, Toyo and Uniroyal have manufactured some of the most popular tyre models on the market.
Having a combined 230+ years in the tyre industry, these brands demonstrate exceptional expertise in tyre production – this is shown through two of their top respective models, the
Proxes TR1 and
RainSport 5.
This article will compare both the tyre models, giving an overview of the technology, customer reviews, and more of both tyres.
Proxes TR1 Overview
The Toyo Proxes TR1 is a mid-range
summer tyre released globally by Toyo in 2019.
A Taper Slit and a high-stiffness rib provide strong grip and efficient steering whilst cornering, enhancing the handling capabilities of the tyre.
Toyo have also developed the Proxes TR1 with a firm sidewall and tread pattern, further aiding the grip and handling of all car sizes.
Innovative wear indicators are featured along the tyre’s tread pattern, giving motorists peace of mind through visual warnings of the tyre’s tread depth falling below legal requirements (1.6mm). This can help drivers plan for a tyre replacement in due time, providing safety and enhanced fuel efficiency.
Upon its release in 2019, the Toyo Proxes TR1 replaced the Proxes T1-R.
The Uniroyal RainSport 5 is also a summer tyre, manufactured by Uniroyal since 2019.
Uniroyal’s wide ‘Shark Skin’ grooves cut through the tyre’s tread blocks, which clears water efficiently from the tyre. This boosts wet grip performance and results in reducing the risk of aquaplaning.
Wet grip is further enhanced through Uniroyal’s utilisation of ‘Aqua-Twist’ sipes, which effectively tackle water dispersion.
An advanced tread compound minimises abrasion, boosting longevity of the tyre. A redefined tread pattern balances pressure distribution across the tyre, ensuring high mileage and reducing external tyre noise.
The RainSport 5 replaced the
RainSport 3 upon its global release in 2019.
