Regarding motorbike tyres, Michelin’s Road and Pilot Road tyre series stand tall as some of the leading bike tyres on the market and have done for a number of years now.
Two popular models from this bike tyre series are Michelin’s Pilot Road 4 GT and Road 6 GT, which we will be drawing comparisons between throughout this article.
Michelin’s innovative XST+ sipes delivers excellent wet grip performance, ensuring stability at various speeds in wet and slippery surfaces.
At the time of release, independent tyre tests concluded that the Pilot Road 4 GT’s braking performance was 17% stronger than competitors, emphasising the strong capabilities of the tyre.
A high silica rubber compound contributes to grip not just on wet driving conditions, but also dry road surfaces.
A true innovative model, the Pilot Road 4 GT has been a popular tyre for motorbike riders across the world for over a decade.
The
Michelin Road 6 GT is also a premium bike tyre, globally released by Michelin in 2022.

FAQs:
Which is better for wet weather — Pilot Road 3 or Road 6?
The Road 6 is the better-performing tyre in wet conditions. Michelin states the Road 6 delivers up to 15% improved wet grip over the Road 5 thanks to a 100% silica compound and new tread pattern; in real-world tests it also shows shorter braking distances in heavy rain. The Road 3 was also strong for wet grip when launched (X Sipe Technology) but lacks the newer silica compound and tread design improvements of the Road 6.
How long do Michelin Road 6 tyres last compared to Road 3?
Michelin claims the Road 6 has around 10% longer tread life than the Road 5; real-world longevity will depend on bike, load, and riding style. The older Road 3 has proven durability thanks to 2CT compound, but expect modern Road 6 compounds and reinforcement to deliver similar or better mileage across most touring use-cases.
Are Pilot Road 3 tyres still worth buying in 2026?
Only as a budget or legacy option. The Road 6 improves wet grip and compound tech, so for safety and longevity the Road 6 is the better long-term buy. If Road 3 is significantly cheaper or your bike requires a discontinued size, it may still be acceptable for casual riding.
What bikes do Road 6 tyres fit?
Common fitments include many sport-touring and GT bikes: BMW, Triumph, Yamaha, Honda and other manufacturers. Popular sizes: front 120/70 R17; rears vary (170/60 R17, 180/55 R17, 190/55 R17). Check your bike’s handbook or our tyre size guide to confirm fitment.
