When to replace tyres?

In the UK, the legal minimum tread depth for tyres is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, all the way around.

If your tyre tread depth is nearing this limit, it's time to replace them.

What are the other signs that it's time to replace my tyres?

Even if your tyres meet the legal minimum tread depth, there are other signs that indicate it's time for new ones.

These include visible damage to the tyre -such as cuts, cracks, or bulges.

Signs of uneven wear, which may indicate a problem with your vehicle's alignment or suspension; and should be taken seriously. If you are concerned about the wear rate of your tyres, it is best to have them checked over by a tyre fitter.

Another reason to replace tyres is the age of the tyre. Tyres will deteriorate over time, as the rubber begins to perish. Even if they haven't been used very much. So if they are 5-10 years old, have them checked to make sure they are still fit for purpose.
