Cars with the Best MPG 2024

Cars with the Best MPG 2024

When purchasing a vehicle, there are many features you may look out for. Some car buyers may prioritise design, with others perhaps opting for extra performance capabilities.

One feature however that is vital is the car’s miles per gallon (MPG), which refers to how long a vehicle can travel for every gallon it uses.

Much like electric vehicles having the best range, petrol/diesel cars that have the higher number in MPG are generally considered some of the strongest cars regarding fuel economy.

Today, we will cover some of the best cars on the market when focusing on the vehicle’s MPG.

1. Skoda Octavia

Skoda have manufactured many vehicles that have been strong in fuel economy, including car models such as the Fabia and Rapid.

Their top performing car regarding MPG usage, however, is their famous Octavia, a small family car released by Skoda back in 1996.

The Octavia has been the Czech car brand’s most successful model in recent times, officially being Skoda’s best-selling car.

In terms of fuel economy, the Octavia (Estate) can provide up to 67mpg, depending on what trim of the vehicle you opt for.

The 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine is a great option for MPG, offering reduced emissions and respectable performance, giving small families a safe and economical option.

2. Peugeot 208

The Peugeot 208 has been a part of Peugeot’s extensive model line-up for a number of years now, replacing the Peugeot 207 in 2012.

Given Peugeot have been a leading manufacturer for well over 100 years, they have really become experts in creating fuel efficient vehicles for car buyers around the world.

And fuel economy is exactly what the 208 has going for it, with the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid diesel variant of the model being capable of up to 70mpg.

The award-winning 208 is not just a great first car for new drivers, but the capabilities of its fuel economy makes it a solid option for anyone on the roads.

3. Suzuki Swift

Another car that’s a top choice for new drivers also offering solid miles per gallon is the Suzuki Swift.

Released by Suzuki in 2019, the small hatchback car has grabbed the attention of motorists around world due to its practicality and viable performance features.

The Swift has a mild-hybrid trim that garners up to 64mpg, making the vehicle one of the top cars for fuel consumption.

Industry experts have also heralded the Swift for its fuel economy, with Honest John naming the 1.0-litre Boosterjet version of the model ‘Real MPG Car of the Year’ in 2019.

With a fourth generation of Swift arriving in 2024, you should expect the any new versions of the model to be just as efficient as previous iterations.

4. Toyota Yaris

Toyota has given us some great car models over the years that offer great MPG, including the Toyota Corolla, Camry, and Avalon to name a few.

All of these models offer pretty similar MPG, but the one car we would recommend for fuel efficiency is the Toyota Yaris.

The Yaris have been on the roads since 1999, giving motorists a safe and practical hatchback that is revered by car enthusiasts and experts alike.

One standout feature of the Yaris, particularly with modern renditions of the car, is its MPG capabilities – the Toyota Yaris (Icon range) offers up to 68.8mpg.

This makes the Yaris one of the best car models on the market regarding miles per gallon.

5. BMW 1 Series

It’s no secret that BMW stand tall amongst most of their competitors when it comes to car innovation.

Amongst BMW’s impressive and extensive car model line-up, one of their most successful models is the BMW 1 Series.

Success of the 1 Series has not just been because of the model’s longevity, performance, or even the multiple sleek trims that BMW offer – the 1 Series is known for how efficient its fuel efficiency is.

If you long for strong MPG, the go-to trim is the 116d SE trim of the 1 Series, offering an MPG of up to 61.4mpg.

Given the great performance capabilities and the MPG of the 1 Series, it is hard not to argue that the BMW car is one of the strongest options out there.

6. Renault Clio

Lastly, we have an iconic model from the French car manufacturers Renault, that being their famous Clio.

The Clio was introduced by Renault in 1990 and has since defined what a practical and efficient car should be.

Renault’s ever-successful Clio is currently in its fifth generation, with the latest iteration offering customers a great choice for a fuel efficient car.

In terms of its fuel economy, the Renault Clio offers up to 62.8mpg, with the E-Tech Hybrid trim of the model being the most efficient regarding MPG.
