1. Tesla Model 3

Tesla have taken the automotive world by storm over the past decade or so, with the Model 3 being at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution.

The Tesla Model 3 is a four-door luxury saloon released by Tesla back in 2017.

Since its release, the Model 3 has become one of Tesla’s favoured models. It is also the cheapest model from the EV manufacturer’s line-up, giving motorists a less expensive option to the likes of the Model Y and Model X. The entry-level Model 3 Standard rear-wheel drive starts from just £37,990 in the UK.

Industry experts have also heralded the EV since its inception, such as Auto Express who named the Tesla Model 3 ‘Car of the Year’ in 2020. And since then the model has benefited from several updates and upgrades.

Despite a recent raft of electric competition, the Model 3's impressive range and performance makes it our top EV pick for cars under £50K.

2. BMW 3 Series

Being one of the most iconic car brands ever, BMW have had their fair share of iconic car models.

Their most successful and arguably most important car model released is the BMW 3 Series.

Revealed to the world for the first time in 1976, the 3 Series has become a staple in BMW’s car production for nearly 50 years, becoming the brand’s best-selling car of all time.

And it’s one of the world’s best-selling cars of all time too, with over 20 million models produced since its inception.

For good reason, too. With an expansive lineup of engine and specs which range from frugal to fast and everything in between, there's a 3 Series for everyone.

The 3 Series has gathered many awards and accolades since its release, such as Fleet News heralding the model ‘Best Company Car of the Year’ and What Car? naming the 3 Series 'Best Estate Car to Drive' in recent years.

There are several variants of the BMW 3 Series, meaning prices for the model will vary. These variants include the standard Sport edition, M, and M Sport, with the M models being considerably more expensive.

A new BMW 3 Series starts from around £40,000, while high-performance variants like the M3 Competition can cost as much as £100,000.

Given its stamp on the automotive industry since the 1970s, the 3 Series is the definition of a reliable option when looking for that next car.
