What are the new car brands to keep an eye on in 2023?

As we fully settle into 2023 – 2 months down and counting – we can see that the automotive industry in the UK is undergoing a significant shift towards electrification and sustainability.

This also translates into the tyre industry, where alongside traditional car tyres, the newer specially designed EV tyres are becoming a more popular option.

For vehicles, established brands are launching new electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid models, while new players are entering the market with innovative technologies and designs.

So, we have come up with a quick overview on some of the new car brands to keep an eye on in 2023.

BYD

BYD (Build Your Dreams) is a Chinese car manufacturer that has been making EVs since 2003. It has recently gained popularity for its electric buses, taxis, and commercial vehicles.

BYD Atto 3

BYD plans to launch their Tang EV flagship SUV in Europe in 2023. The Tang EV will have a range of up to 310 miles - and an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

Polestar

Polestar is a Swedish electric car brand that was spun off from Volvo in 2017. It launched its first car, the Polestar 1 hybrid coupe, in 2019. In 2022, it launched the Polestar 2 – an electric crossover, which received critical acclaim for its design and performance.

Polestar 3

Polestar plans to launch the Polestar 3 electric SUV in 2023, which they hole will compete with other luxury electric SUVs – such as the Audi e-tron and Tesla Model X.

SsangYong

SsangYong is a South Korean manufacturer that specialise in SUVs and 4x4s. Despite recent reports of financial hardships in recent years – they recently received investment from Mahindra & Mahindra, an Indian based conglomerate.

SsangYong Rexton

With this new backing, SsangYong plans to launch the Korando e-Motion electric SUV in 2023, which will have a range of up to 310miles and a top speed of 108mph.

Lucid

Lucid, an American electric car manufacturer founded in 2007. They released the Lucid Air electric sedan in 2022 to good reviews.

Lucid Air

The Lucid Air is said to have an impressive range of up to 520 miles and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just over 2.5 seconds. Lucid has announced their intentions to launch the Lucid Gravity in 2023 – an EV SUV with a similar range and performance capability to the Lucid Air.

Xpeng

Xpeng is a Chinese electric car startup that was founded in 2015. It launched its first car, the Xpeng G3 electric SUV, in 2018.

Xpeng lauched the P5 electric sedan in 2022 which featured autonomous driving capabilities as a means to take on Tesla. Xpeng has plans to introduce the G9 electric SUV in 2023, which will have a range of up to 435 miles.

Fisker

Fisker is an American EV startup, founded in 2016. It plans to launch the Fisker Ocean electric SUV, in 2023. With early reviews indicating that this could be one to watch out for.

The Fisker Ocean has a range of up to 300 miles and features a unique solar roof that is said to have the capability to add up to 1000 miles worth of range per year. As well as the Ocean, Fisker also plans to launch the EMotion electric sedan - which is claims to have a range of up to 400 miles - and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

Nio

Nio is a Chinese electric car brand that was founded in 2014. It has gained popularity in China for its high-performance electric SUVs, including the ES8, ES6, and EC6.

Nio ET5

Nio launched the ET7 electric sedan in 2022, which will have a range of up to 600miles and feature advanced autonomous driving capabilities. Nio has big plans to expand into Europe and other markets in 2023.
