How To Check Vehicle Tyre Pressure

Maintaining proper tyre pressure is crucial for the safety and performance of your vehicle. Below we've listed how to check the tyre pressure of various types of vehicles, including cars, vans, caravans, and motorbikes.

How To Check Car Tyre Pressure

1. Locate the tyre pressure recommendations: you can find this information on the sticker located on the driver's side door, or in the vehicle handbook.

2. Remove the valve cap: unscrew the valve cap on the car tyre.

3. Use a tyre pressure gauge: attach the gauge to the valve and press down. The gauge will show the current pressure inside the tyre.

4. Check the pressure: compare the measured pressure with the recommended pressure.

5. Adjust the pressure: if the pressure is too low or high, use an air compressor or pump to add or remove air as needed. If it is already the optimal pressure, you do not need to take any further action.

6. Repeat for all tyres: Repeat steps 2-5 for all the tyres on the car.

Always remember to put the valve cap back on the valve when finished.

How To Check Van Tyre Pressure

The process for checking tyre pressure for a van tyre is very similar to cars.

1. Locate the recommended tyre pressure: you can find this information on a sticker located on the driver's side door, or in the owner's manual. Make sure to check the recommended pressure for the specific make and model of your van.

2. Check the tyre condition: inspect the tyres for any signs of damage, such as cuts, bulges, or punctures.

3. Remove the valve cap: unscrew the valve cap on the tyre.

4. Use a tyre pressure gauge: attach the gauge to the valve stem and press down. The gauge will show the current pressure.

5. Check the pressure: compare the measured pressure with the recommended pressure. If the pressure is too low or high, use an air compressor or pump to add or remove air as needed.

6. Repeat for all tyres: Repeat steps 3-5 for all the tyres on the van.

7. Check the spare tyre: Don't forget to check the spare tyre as well. Make sure it's in good condition and has the correct pressure.

How To Check Caravan Tyre Pressure

1. Locate the tyre pressure recommendations: you can find this information in the owner's manual.

2. Remove the valve cap: unscrew the valve cap on the tyre.

3. Use a tyre pressure gauge: attach the gauge to the valve stem and press down. The gauge will show the current pressure.

4. Check the pressure: compare the measured pressure with the recommended pressure.

5. Adjust the pressure: if the pressure is too low or high, use an air compressor or pump to add or remove air as needed.

6. Repeat for all tyres: Repeat steps 2-5 for all the tyres on the caravan.

How To Check Motorbike Tyre Pressure

6. Repeat for all tyres: repeat steps 2-5 for the other tyre on the motorbike.

What does check cold tyre mean?

This means you should check your tyre pressure when they are deemed 'cold'. I.e. have not been driven on recently. When tyres are in use, they create friction with the road which increases their temperature. This in turn, affects the air pressure - which would give inaccurate readings. It is always best to check your tyres when they are cold - to get the most accurate measurement.
