Continental SportContact 7 vs Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S

Both Continental and Michelin are both leading tyre manufacturers specialising the production of premium tyres.

Released in 2021, the SportContact 7 is a premium summer tyre manufactured by Continental.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S is also a summer tyre, introduced by Michelin back in 2017. This tyre model acted as a more performance-orientated version of the Pilot Sport 4.

Today, we will be covering the key differences between both tyre models, highlighting key features, awards, how our customers feel about the tyres, and more.

SportContact 7 Overview

A premium summer tyre manufactured Continental, the SportContact 7 has been a staple in Continental’s tyre model line-up since its release.

Even though the SportContact 7 is a summer tyre, the tyre’s adaptive pattern gives the model great levels of performance in both wet and dry surfaces.

Continental have developed the SportContact 7 with a stiff low-void pattern and Continental’s BlackChilli compound ensures great performance and enhanced mileage.

The Continental SportContact 7 has been selected as an Original Equipment (OE) tyre for many car brands, such as Audi, BMW, and Maserati.

Upon its release in 2021, the SportContact 7 replaced the SportContact 6.

Pilot Sport 4 S Overview

The Pilot Sport 4 S is a high performance premium tyre developed by Michelin with many advanced technologies.

As mentioned previously, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S is the high performance version of the Pilot Sport 4. Since 2017, the Michelin tyre has offered customers a fantastic model that provides safety, durability, and control.

The summer tyre is developed with Michelin’s Dynamic Response technology, giving the tyre strong durability, as well as steering and handling responsiveness.

Michelin also manufacture the Pilot Sport 4 S with their Bi-Compound Technology, giving the tyre enhanced performance in various weather conditions, as well as improving on-track capabilities.

Car brands including BMW, Tesla, and Mercedes-Benz have chosen the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S as an OE tyre.

In the few years of its lifespan, the Continental SportContact 7 has received its flowers through both awards and successful tyre tests.

Back in 2022, WhatTyre named the SportContact 7 ‘Tyre of the Year’, which is to date ones of the most prestigious awards the Continental model has received.

In that same year, just one year after its release, the Continental SportContact 7 was awarded with both the ‘Product Design’ at the Red Dot Awards, along with the iF Design Award. This further emphasises the impact that the summer tyre had on the tyre industry right away.

Fast-forward a year later, the Continental tyre was awarded with ‘Best Tyres for Hot Hatches’ by DriverReviews. That same year seen DriverReviews recognise the SportContact 7 to be “Highly Recommended” as ‘Best Tyres for High Performance’, finishing 2nd in that specific category.

The awards and recognition of the Continental SportContact 7 makes the model undeniable in the industry, with many more to come in the near future.

Pilot Sport 4 S Awards

Much like the SportContact 7, Michelin have had their fair share of plaudits through their flagship high performance tyre.

In 2021, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S was named ‘Best High Performance Tyre’ of 2021 at Car Talk’s Golden Wrench Awards. The Pilot Sport model was selected as winner of the high performance category due to its “ exceptional steering precision, directional stability and maximum grip on wet and dry roads”.

At the DriverReviews Customer Choice Awards, the Pilot Sport 4 S was named ‘Best Tyres for High Performance Cars’ in both 2022 and 2023 – this is the same category that the SportContact 7 finished 2nd in 2023.

Going back a couple of years, arguably their most prestigious accolade came to light, where the Pilot Sport 4 S was awarded with the ‘Overall Tyre’ award in EVO’s 2020 tyre test.

These awards and successful tyre tests shines a bright light on how well the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S has been received within the tyre industry, from tyre experts and customers alike.
