Michelin CrossClimate 2 vs Continental AllSeasonContact

Michelin CrossClimate 2 vs Continental AllSeasonContact

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 and Continental AllSeasonContact are two all season tyre models produced by two of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world.

Both the CrossClimate 2 and AllSeasonContact are two all-season tyre models that are mainstays in their respective manufacturer’s model line-up.

This tyre test article will cover both Continental and Michelin’s successful all-season tyres, seeing how both match up in the key areas of the models.

CrossClimate 2 Overview

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 is a premium tyre model that is designed for all weather conditions.

The CrossClimate 2 has been described as the “expert of the all-season tyres”, being an innovator and market leader in braking and traction throughout various types of surfaces.

The all-season tyre model features a Cool Running Sidewall that helps the tyre deliver a 10% reduction in rolling resistance compared to its predecessor – the CrossClimate+. This enhances fuel efficiency of the model as well as battery range for electric vehicles.

Replacing the CrossClimate+, the CrossClimate 2 was launched by Michelin in 2020.

AllSeasonContact Overview

The Continental AllSeasonContact is also a premium tyre model, specialising in the all-season tyre market.

The all-season Continental model has fantastic grip on snowy and wet conditions, with the tyre having Winter Performance Resins and Traction Silica Compound to empower performance.

Decreasing of rolling resistance is another feature of the tyre model, having optimised sidewall construction and tread pattern depth leads that aids fuel consumption and EV battery range.

The AllSeasonContact was released by Continental in 2017.

Tyre Label Ratings

Tyre label ratings determine how each tyre model performs in key tyre performance areas. These labels are EU regulated, and also vary between tyre size.

These are broken down into three different performance factors:

CrossClimate 2 Label Ratings

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 sees fuel efficiency ratings of A – D, with the most common ratings being B and C.

The Michelin tyre model has a consistent wet grip rating of B across all tyre sizes.

The tyre noise levels vary depending on tyre size, with levels ranging from 69B – 73B.

AllSeasonContact Label Ratings

The Continental AllSeasonContact has fuel efficiency ratings of A – C, with B and C being the most prominent ratings across the tyre sizes.

Much like the CrossClimate 2, the AllSeasonContact has a wet grip rating of B across the board.

The tyre noise levels range from 71B – 73B.

CrossClimate 2 Awards

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 has received prestigious recognitions and awards since its release in 2020.

The Michelin tyre model finished 1st out of 10 tyres in Tyre Reviews’ 2022/23 All Season Tyre Test, with the tyres being described as “ridiculously good in the snow” and labelled an “exceptional all-season tyre”.

The CrossClimate 2 was also awarded with the DriverReviews Customer Choice ‘Best All-Season Tyres’ award for 2022, further highlighting the model’s capabilities in all-season technologies.

AllSeasonContact Awards

The Continental AllSeasonContact has also had awards and recognitions that highlights the cutting-edge technology of the tyre model.

In 2020, the AllSeasonContact was awarded the AutoBild top ‘exemplary rating’ due to the model’s all-rounded performance.

The Continental tyre model also received praise from Auto Express in 2021, when they were honoured with the ‘Best All-Season Tyre’ award, with Auto Express describing the AllSeasonContact as an “excellent tyre” and a “standout performer”.
