Tyres & Football – A Growing Love Affair


“Tyres & Football, Tyres & Football, they go together like wellies and pud-dles” (Sing that to the tune of love and marriage and it sounds... well awful).

Anyway, what was the point of that – well we all know that over the past couple of decades the amount of sponsorship deals struck between football (be it tournaments, teams or stadiums) and tyre manufacturers has increased greatly.

Of course Continental seems to be the kings of football sponsorship with every year new deals being struck right across the world. 

Now, the Korean tyre manufacturer Kumho is seeing the benefits of being linked with football.

Their original sponsorship deal with Manchester United (arguably one of the biggest football teams in the world) was struck back in July 2007 and is currently in the process of being renegotiated sources reveal. However, there is a growing desire within the European section of Kumho’s management who wish to see more deals being struck with other top football teams.

As such, Kumho are reportedly in talks with a football team in Germany’s top league – the Bundesliga. This new move is set to significantly increase the brand awareness of Kumho across Europe - ultimately leading to more sales (they hope).

As time goes on and as long as tyre manufacturers continue to see a positive return on their sponsorship, it is safe to say that more and more companies from within the tyre industry will link themselves with the beautiful game.
