Battery Powered Racing Similar to F1
Formula One’s governing body - Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) – recently announced their intentioned to develop a new racing series, with backing from the European Commission, that would involve the sole use of electrically powered cars.
One of the main goals of the new race series – besides providing racing entertainment – would be to bring green technology vehicles into the spotlight.
According to the Top Gear website, the President of FIA, Jean Todt, has given the go ahead for research into “electric car, go-kart and single-seater categories.”
The ultimate aim, it seems, is to to create a world-wide racing series, akin to Formula One.
Jean Todt was recently quoted as saying, "we want as soon as possible to have new categories with new energy. As much as we can do it all over the world, we will do it."
It seems as though greener racing is on many peoples’ minds at the moment - just recently, Silverstone revealed their plans to host an electric car event in May.
Known as the Greenpower Corporate Challenge, the event will see schools and corporations pitted against each other in a contest to design, construct and race their electrically powered cars.
