Preparing Your Car for Winter
Snow has begun to fall in some areas of the UK. With this in mind, it’s a good time to start preparing your car for the coming winter months.
The price comparison website, Confused.com, have released some helpful tips to get you and your car through the bad weather. Little things like topping up the antifreeze levels in your screen wash and making sure that your tyres are in good condition can go a long way to reducing the chances of getting caught out by the weather.
When you are checking your tyres – i.e. making sure that the tread depth is at a legal limit (1.6mm across 75% of the tyre) and ensuring that your air pressure is at the correct levels – if you find that any area of the tyre is not meeting the required safety levels, it is extremely important that you buy new tyres.
Head of motor at Confused.com, Will Thomas, said: "Motorists need to plan their journeys in advance. Leaving home ten minutes earlier, in order to de-ice the windscreen, will save that potentially dangerous mad rush to work."
On top of this advice, the Highways Agency has also come out with the very strong recommendation that motorists pack a first aid kit, a spare set of clothes and a reflective warning triangle. All these items could turn out to be vital in an emergency.
