First Yokohama Run-Flat Hits British Roads
For the first time the UK now has the choice of Yokohama run-flat tyres after the Advan Sport ZPS (Zero Pressure System) were added to the Yokohama tyres range.
According to the Japanese tyre manufacturer, the new tyre has been designed for fitment on the BMW 3, 5 and 7 series, Lexus GS and SC and the Mini Cooper. They believe that the Advan Sport ZPS offers drivers the same tried and tested Yokohama high performance, but now with the added bonus of run-flat technology.
The tread pattern is said to be the same as the original Advan Sport tyre – four grooves in the centre to remove water and wide should blocks that create strong levels of grip whilst taking corners.
Like with other run-flat tyres, the Advan Sport ZPS has been designed to still carry on performing for up to 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50mph if the tyre loses all air pressure.
As someone would expect, the tyre has a strong reinforced sidewall which helps to support the vehicle's weight when the rest of the tyre loses air pressure. The new specifically designed bead wire goes a long way to ensuring that the Advan Sport ZPS continues to make contact with the wheel rim and the bead filler is said to keep the driving experience secure and firm at all times.
