On the 14th April 2010, the new Ferrari 599 GTO was presented to the world. This was followed up with the story that only a total 599 were going to be made, making this car not only the fastest road Ferrari to date, but also very rare.
News has also been released that the Ferrari 599 GTO is going to come with custom Michelin tyres, designed especially for the car. For just over 18 months, the French tyre manufacturer and Italian car designers have been working closely to ensure that the tyres help to get the best performance possible from the new car.
A spokesperson for Michelin has said that, “Despite the generous dimensions they are exceptionally light, with the front tyre weighing just 10 kilograms and the rear 15 kilograms. This means a weight saving of up to 10 per cent compared to other tyres of similar dimensions.”
The lighter tyres are said to significantly help the handling ability of the car and also reduce the amount of fuel that it consumes, thus reducing the amount CO2 released into the atmosphere. The tread is unique to this tyre and is made up of three different compounds.
On top of this Michelin claim that their engineers have developed an innovative rubber compounds that ensures accurate and safe handling, no matter what the conditions are.
