Kumho’s Laser Etching Process Receives Award
February was a good month for the folks over at Kumho Tyres. Not only did their laser etching technology receive high praise from technicians and fellow engineers, but at the ‘Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellent 2010’ the tyre manufacturer won the award for ‘Tire Manufacturing and Design Innovation of the Year’.
The award was one of five handed out at a celebratory dinner that took place on the second night of the Tire Technology Expo hosted at the Cologne Messe – Europe’s most prestigious tyre design exhibition and conference.
The award was collected by Kumho’s Managing Director of their European Technical Centre, Roger Jenkins. When accepted the honour, he said, “We are delighted to have been selected for this accolade - it means a great deal to us that such a prestigious panel of judges has recognized the pioneering nature of our work. It is a milestone for Kumho and falls on the 50th anniversary of the company's inauguration.
"Of course it represents the work of many people, in particular the engineers at KETC and our R&D operation in Korea, who are always open-minded about our ambitions. Thanks too to for the patience and expertise of our development partners in the UK."
Their laser etching technology was first launched back in autumn of 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor show and at the time was said to embody the latest technology that is set to revolutionise the manner in which the manufacturer creates its tread designs.
February’s Tire Technology Expo award was not the first to be handed to Kumho for their laser etching process. In 2009 they received an IF Product Design Award.
