Michelin Did Not Bid To Be F1 Supplier
Despite the cat being out the bag for some time, it was officially anncounce that Pirelli do indeed have the tyre supplier contract for next season’s F1 championship. With this news hitting websites, magazines and newspapers all over the world, Michelin have release their own story claiming that they did not put in an official bid.
According to a report from the French sports newspaper L’Equipe, Michelin’s Competition manager Paul Shorrock told them that it was true that they did hold talks with the F1 power-that-be to discuss the possibility of re-entering the sport, hwoever Michelin ultimately took the decision to not bid.
Shorrock has been quoted as saying, “We made proposals to improve the show, including sustainability, having a positive impact on the environment while controlling costs, and of course providing multi-manufacturer competition… but the regulation have not changed.” (The previous quote was translated from French into English).
Pirelli was officially declared to be the supplier of tyres to the F1 following the World Motor Sport Council Meeting in Geneva on 23 June.
