Conti on World Cup Buses
There’s no doubt about it, when it comes to tyres, football and marketing Continental are the kings. This has been proven with the news that with just over a week to go until the World Cup in South Africa all 32 team buses are being equipped by the tyre manufacturer with HSR 1 premium bus tyres.
This kind of exposure at the world’s highest profile football tournament is more than worth its weight in gold.
Continental claims that the HSR 1 was specifically designed for motorway and regional transport use. This makes it perfect for transporting players from stadium to stadium.
Alexander Lührs, a Continental spokesperson said, “Continental is making a major contribution to the safety of the world’s best footballers because the tyres are the only connection with the road and have a contact patch that is just the size of a postcard.”
It was the same back in 2006 at the FIFA World Cup in Germany when all transfer buses were equipped with the HSR 1. Commercial Vehicle Tires spokesman Udo Brandes said, “We also want to use the 2010 FIFA World Cup to demonstrate the advantages of our tyres to our guests on the road”.
Continental also has market leadership in the South African car tyre replacement business with a market share of 20%
