Bridgestone Issue Recall in USA
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations has been forced into issuing a product recall after a flaw has become to light that can potentially cause tyres to deflate. It is estimated that around 4,097 bus tyres are affected. The tyre in question is the Bridgestone R192 275/70R22.5 Load Range J (18 ply) tyre which is chiefly used on inter-city public buses in North America.
Bridgestone have released information which indicates that the R192 has a dimple on the sidewall that has been designed to monitor the sidewall wear. However, it has been said that the specified “depth of the subject tyres’ dimples may result in exposed body ply cord”.
Over time, this could cause the body ply cord to deteriorate, thus potentially causing the tyre to lose air through the dimple. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration who has published the recall notice has added that the dimple air loss issue, “will increase the risk of a crash” however Bridgestone commented that at present they have not been made aware of any incidents of air loss caused by this condition.
Bridgestone says that they will start replacing tyres straight away and is confident that by the 10th July there will be a ample number of replacement tyres available at throughout the US which can be used replace all the recalled tyres.
